SAP Process Mining in GB DevOps for SAP

We’ve recently presented the beta version of our process mining add-on for Gekkobrain DevOps for SAP. And the team has really done some incredible work that I need to share today.

Gekkobrain converts transactions to visually appealing and highly data packed process flows.

My own team of SAP experts are working closely with a team of machine learning experts from Copenhagen University’s Department of Computer Science to build a solution that can fetch transactional data from SAP and visualize as process flows. This alone allows any process owner to mine the process flow with more or less free choice or starting point and end point as well as date ranges. So – let’s say you are responsible for the procurement process, with our tool, you can simply define the starting point as “Purchase Order”, the end point as “Payment Document”, select a date range and then watch the magic unfold. Gekkobrain’s process mining tool beautifully displays the entire process flow, and allows you to understand how much follows the planned process and how much takes detours.

You can analyze the detours and understand, why some might skip steps or take additional steps and the Machine Learning explains why it thinks the flow is detected as bad or if its only happening for one business unit, for one vendor or possibly only a group of users.

Getting that level of insight will take a human thousands of hours, but our solution does that in a split second.

We are currently training the algorithm to understand what constitutes a “Happy Process”and what doesn’t. This will allow organizations to identify bottlenecks and receive suggestions for possible root cause analysis from the Gekkobrain technology. Interestingly enough, this is a feature that turns RPA (Robotic Process Automation) on the head, because it can help identify wrongly implemented automation scenarios.

Process Mining and DevOps

And that’s not all we do. Since all the transactions are linked to custom code, we can display which clusters of custom code are tied up on which business processes. In a time where SAP customers must consider HANA migration, it makes a huge impact to understand how custom code and business process are tied together in logical components, so customer can better plan which customized elements in SAP to bring over and which to scrap.

And that’s really what my team does better than most – taking the complexity out of SAP and providing solid, reliable and understandable data for the right business decisions. And – whenever possible – automating solutions such as HANA code migrations.
