Vestas Wind System is an important (and happy) Gekkobrain customer, and they have been using both our products; Gekkobrain for SAP HANA and Gekkobrain DevOps for SAP for a long time.

Vestas is the energy industry’s global partner on sustainable energy solutions. They design, manufacture, install, and service wind turbines all over the world, and with 102 GW of wind turbines installed in 80 countries, they have a global market share of 17% for wind energy.

Vestas run SAP and since 2009, they have had 330 ABAP developers on their system, developing millions of lines of code across multiple modules and application areas. Needless to say, with 330 developers, the quality of the code will vary. Some is very good and some less resulting in performance issues, dumps and so forth.

One of the great lessons learned from using DevOps is that the level of transparency into the systems, how the custom code performs in the productive environment and how code is interlaced with other code has been very high. As Vestas’ Head of SAP, Vice President Globalt IT, Troels Fleckenstein puts it:

Gekkobrain has helped us gain transparency into our custom code, enabling us to communicate with our internal and external developers on a much more informed level.

Since Gekkobrain collects, analyzes and correlates a wealth of data sources and combines the dynamic, productive data with static checks, all of a sudden, data and dependencies that are very complex to understand becomes crystal clear. This enables Vestas’ teams and external teams to work together in a DevOps culture on improving what needs improving and measure the quality and the results.

Gekkobrain DevOps for SAP is pretty awesome at that.
