This is a question, we often get from new and prospective customers. We normally answer in number of issues, which ranges from anywhere from 10,000 to 100,000 for a normal customer.
But yesterday, as we were in the process of doing an automatic HANA codefix for a customer, who hasn’t seriously cleaned up their code in 13 year. So, we took a look at the remote object set – just for fun.

And – there you have it: The size of the file containing the customer’s mixed quality ABAP code was a whopping 5.5 GB. We’re not talking about images, audio or video, but lines and lines of code. Code that needs to work, code that needs to be reliable, code that needs to execute fast. Since the customer has more than a few performance issues and dumps, I’m guessing our automatic code analysis and remediation will find some interesting issues and the fixed code will perform a lot better than what they have today. No to mention that I’m sure we’ll be able to cut down the 5.5 GB to 1 or 2 afterwards.
How much custom code do you have? Is it cleaned up? Is it well written? Is it HANA ready?
